Introduction

Looking for simple ways to boost HEP compliance?

We know that HEP compliance is a large contributor to patient outcomes, so it’s important to keep track of your patient’s HEP status. That’s why we’ve put together this short guide on boosting HEP compliance with three simple tips!

1. Keep it simple and engaging.

  • Whats the easiest way to boost HEP compliance? Keep it simple. 4-5 exercises. HEPs don’t have to be extremely long or complex when you first start. We wrote a previous article outlining a simple mental framework for achieving a good session in <13 minutes.
  • Make it fun. Give them things they enjoy, not what you enjoy.
  • Use activities or movements that are familiar to the patient, so they are engaged. This way, they won’t feel like they’re learning some boring new thing, but rather something they already know.

2. Give patients the some easy tips to boost HEP compliance.

  • Make sure they’re performing the correct exercise.
  • Suggest that someone at home or the gym checks their form, so they know are doing it correctly
  • Ensure that they are doing it at the right intensity. Sometimes it’s good to give max effort, other times it’s not. Educate them on this and where they are in the healing process.
  • Ask them if understand how to do it (i.e., what is the proper form of an exercise). If they can explain it back to you, that’s great.
  • Make sure they understand what to do if they have any problems. This shouldn’t be a problem, because you can provide swap options for them here.
Most of the tips are easily achievable by using our Whel mobile app!

Studies estimate that HEP compliance is around 50% for most people. This has a huge effect on patient outcomes.

3. Use technology to your advantage

Lots of PTs are still using antiquated tools for patient management. Here’s a great lecture from Susan Whitney on why the time is now to start evolving your practice . The world is changing and with improvements in technology it only makes sense for PTs to use it to their advantage. Whel allows you to build reusable programs for all patients in your practice, and we have a huge collection of program templates at your disposal. You can always go in and tweak things to be more prescriptive with your exercises if needed.

Conclusion

We know most of you are just trying to get through busy days of treating patients. We hope using a product like Whel will provide you with more ability to focus on your time with patients face to face. Let us handle the other things!

We hope this information has been helpful! And if it was, please share it with your colleagues.
